(구)롯데백화점 마산점 활용 논의 본격화… 원도심 활성화 해법 찾는다경남대도약준비팀, 창원시·경남교육청과 현장 점검
경남대도약준비팀은 17일 창원시 마산합포구에 위치한 (구)롯데백화점 마산점을 방문해 건물 현황을 점검하고 산하기관 이전을 비롯한 다양한 활용 가능성을 검토했다.
이번 현장 방문은 지난해 6월 영업 종료 이후 비어 있는 건물의 장기 방치 우려를 해소하고 원도심 활성화 방안을 찾기 위해 마련됐다.
특히 해당 건물 활용은 경남도와 경남교육청, 창원시가 각각 주요 현안으로 검토하고 있는 사안으로 관계기관이 함께 협력 방안을 논의했다는 점에서 주목된다.
이날 현장에는 경남대도약준비팀을 비롯해 경남도와 경남도교육청, 경남교육감직 인수위원회, 창원시, 창원시장직 인수위원회 관계자들이 참석해 건물 구조와 시설 현황을 살펴봤다.
(구)롯데백화점 마산점은 지하 5층, 지상 20층 규모의 복합건축물로 판매시설과 업무시설, 교육시설, 문화·집회시설, 오피스텔 등을 갖추고 있다. 현재 건물은 공실 상태이며 소유주는 KB자산운용이다.
참석자들은 산하기관 이전 가능성을 비롯해 교육·문화·공공 기능을 연계한 복합 활용 방안을 논의했으며, 지역사회에 필요한 기능을 도입해 원도심 활성화 거점으로 활용하는 방안에 의견을 모았다.
또 건물이 장기간 방치될 경우 상권 침체와 도심 공동화 현상이 심화될 수 있다는 점에서 지역 활력 회복에 기여할 수 있는 활용 모델을 다각도로 검토하기로 했다.
