이날 열린 8.15 특별성회는, 홍남표 창원시장의 환영사와 박완수 경남도지사의 축사로 시작되었고, 이후 이창교 경남기독교총연합회장의 개회선언으로 예배가 시작되었으며, 경남지역에서 1만여명의 성도가 참석했다.

경남기독교연합회 산하 2,640개 교회에서 참여한, 1천여명의 찬양단원은 김성언(마산제일교회 집사) 지휘자의 지휘 아래, 할렐루야를 뜨겁게 찬양해, 객석을 가득채운 1만여명의 성도들로부터 뜨거운 박수를 받았다. 

 

이번 8.15 특별성회는 경남기독교총연합회가, 매년 8.15 광복절을 기념하기 위해 이어오던 것으로, 올해는 청년들에게 인기가 많은 위러브 찬양팀을 초청해, 청년들의 참여와 함께 뜨거운 찬양을 이끌어냈다.

청년들은 객석에서 내려와 위러브의 찬양에 맞춰 함께 찬양하며 마치 콘서트장을 방불케 했으며, 뜨거운 찬양과 함성으로 실내체육관을 달궜다. 이에 위러브 찬양단 박은총 대표는 간증을 통해 "23년전 창원 용지동에서 살때, 이 자리에서 예배를 드렸던 것이 기억난다"고 했다.

홍남표 시장은 인사말에서 "광복절은 우리나라가 일제의 혹독한 압박에서 벗어나 민족의 생명과 얼을 되찾는 날이자, 다시는 아픈 역사가 되풀이 되지 않도록 하겠다는 결연한 의지를 다짐히는 날이기도 합니다. 8.15특별성회가 광복을 위해 헌신하신 애국선열들의 숭고한 희생정신을 추모하고, 불굴의 용기와 지혜를 배우는 교육의 장이 될 것이라고 확신한다"고 말했다.

 

이창교 경남기독교총연합회 대표회장도 인사말을 통해 "대한민국이 8.15 해방을 맞은지가 79년이 됐다. 우리 대한민국이 영적 각성과 영적 부흥이 가장 시급하다. 이번 8.15특별성회가 경남을 살리고, 대한민국을 살리는 영적 부흥의 출발점이 되길 간절히 소망한다"고 말했다.
