Resident-Led Community Projects Launched in 15 Rural Villages in Gimhae

Expansion of ‘Gimhaeppy’ Support Scale… 7 Village PDs Deployed to Operate Culture, Care, and Festival Programs

The Cultural City Center of the Gimhae Culture & Tourism Foundation has completed the selection of participating villages and Village PDs for ‘Gimhae-style Happy Village Creation Gimhaeppy,’ a resident-led village community revitalization project, and is now beginning full-scale implementation.

Born in its fourth year, the Gimhaeppy project aims to improve cultural accessibility for villages in culturally underserved areas (towns and townships) and to foster sustainable, resident-led communities.

Through open recruitment and screening conducted last April and May, the Cultural City Center finalized the selection of 15 participating villages and 7 Village PDs. The scale of the project has expanded compared to last year, increasing the number of supported villages from 10 to 15 and the number of Village PDs from 5 to 7. The project will run until this coming November, and Village PDs will be responsible for project planning and execution support in conjunction with participating villages, as well as gathering resident opinions and conducting on-site monitoring. Each selected village will receive 5 million won in project funding.

The projects selected this year cover a diverse range of fields, including resident culture and arts programs, village festivals, documentation projects, content development utilizing local resources, community space operation, and environmental improvement. A total of 15 villages are participating, including 4 in the Jinyeong area, 2 in the Hallim area, 4 in the Saengnim area, and 5 in the Daedong area.

Key projects selected include "Dudream Healing Dadu-i Nanta" in Sinyong Village (Jinyeong), "Jwagwon-ri Lotus Scent Our Village" in Jwagwon Village, "Seongpo Village 3-GO Project" in Seongpo Village (Saengnim), and "Sweet Storehouse Caring for Each Other" in Sindong 1-gu Village (Daedong).

The Foundation expects that various programs combining cultural and artistic activities with resident exchanges will contribute to the recovery of local communities and the enhancement of vitality in rural areas. In November, the Foundation plans to hold a performance sharing session to share best practices and promote the establishment of cooperative networks among villages.

Jo Il-woong, Director of the Cultural City Center, stated, “The Gimhae Happy project is meaningful because it involves residents creating change in their villages themselves,” adding, “We will provide active support to discover local stories and spread community culture.”
