[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 경남의 특성화고 2개교가 교육부 협약형 특성화고 공모사업에 선정되면서 항공우주와 인공지능(AI) 기반 제조산업 분야 인재 양성에 속도가 붙게 됐다.

 

경상남도교육청은 2026년 교육부 협약형 특성화고 공모사업에 진주기계공업고등학교와 창원기계공업고등학교가 최종 선정됐다고 밝혔다.

 

협약형 특성화고는 지역 전략산업과 연계한 직업교육 체계를 구축해 교육과 취업, 지역 정주로 이어지는 인재 육성 모델을 만드는 사업이다. 선정 학교에는 5년간 총 45억 원이 지원되며 산업 수요에 맞춘 교육과정과 현장실습, 취업 연계 프로그램 등이 운영된다.

 

진주기계공고는 항공·위성 산업 분야 지역 인재 양성을 목표로 항공기 제작과 운용, 관련 인프라 분야를 아우르는 교육과정을 운영한다. 경남의 우주항공산업 집적지인 진주·사천권 산업과 연계해 현장형 전문인력을 육성할 계획이다.

 

창원기계공고는 피지컬 AI 기반 제조 기술명장 양성을 추진한다. AI와 기계, 전기, 로봇 기술을 융합한 교육과정을 통해 스마트 제조산업에 필요한 전문인력을 배출한다는 구상이다.

 

이번 사업은 교육청과 경남도를 중심으로 지자체, 대학, 기업, 공공기관이 함께 참여하는 산학관 협력 체계로 운영된다. 진주기계공고는 진주시와 항공기업, 경상국립대학교 등이 참여하고, 창원기계공고는 창원시와 기업, 경남테크노파크, 국립창원대학교, 한국폴리텍대학 등이 협력한다.

 

이번 선정으로 경남은 지난해 협약형 특성화고로 지정된 경남해양과학고등학교에 이어 3개 협약형 특성화고 체제를 갖추게 됐다. 경남해양과학고는 스마트 항해과와 스마트 엔진과를 운영하며 해기사 양성에 나서고 있다.

 

경남교육청은 이번 사업이 단순한 취업 지원을 넘어 지역 산업이 필요로 하는 인재를 양성하고, 청년들의 지역 정착까지 연결하는 새로운 직업교육 모델이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.

 

김정희 학교정책국장은 “지역 산업과 교육이 긴밀히 연결되는 직업교육 체계를 구축해 학생들이 지역에서 성장하고 정착할 수 있도록 지원하겠다”며 “경남형 협약형 특성화고를 전국을 선도하는 직업교육 모델로 발전시켜 나가겠다”고 말했다.

Changwon Mechanical High School is pursuing the training of master craftsmen in manufacturing technology based on physical AI. This project is operated under an industry-academia-government cooperation system centered on the Office of Education and Gyeongnam Province, with participation from local governments, universities, companies, and public institutions.
