[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 18일 지수면 승산리에서 지역 인사와 문화유산 관계자, 주민 등 80여 명이 참석한 가운데 ‘허선구고가(古家) 보수공사 준공식’을 개최했다.

 

이번 보수공사는 지난 2022년 4월부터 지난 8월까지 총 14억7700만원을 들여 안채와 중문채, 문간채 등 주요 부속건물을 전면 해체·보수하고, 화장실을 증축하는 방식으로 추진됐다.

 

허선구고가는 지난 1914년 허만식이 건립한 근대 한옥으로, 안채·사랑채·문간채가 일직선으로 배치된 남부지역 부농가옥의 구조적 특징을 잘 보존하고 있다. 

 

게다가 안채와 사랑채의 3량가 구조 등 원형이 비교적 온전히 남아 있어 근대 한옥 연구 자료로서 학술적 가치가 크다.

 

이 고택은 허만식이 지난 1891년 초시에 급제한 데서 초시댁으로 불리며 지역 주민들에게도 역사적 상징성을 지닌 공간으로 전해져 오고 있다.

 

고택이 위치한 승산마을은 김해 허씨와 능성 구씨가 함께 터를 잡은 집성촌으로, 인근에 LG그룹 창업주 구인회 생가와 독립운동가이자 교육사업가인 허만정의 고택이 자리해 지역 근대사에서 의미가 깊은 곳이다.

 

진주시는 이번 보수를 계기로 허선구고가의 역사·생활문화적 가치를 회복하고, 향후 꿈과 숨결을 잇는 허선구고가 활용사업을 통해 초시댁 시간여행, 전통문화 체험, 지역 역사 해설 프로그램 등을 운영할 계획이다.
