경남도는 섬을 보유한 창원시, 거제시, 통영시, 사천시, 하동군, 고성군, 남해군 7개 시군과 홍보 전시관을 운영해 도내 섬들의 아름다움과 매력을 전 국민에게 알릴 계획이다.
이번 행사는 ‘천천히 돌아보는 섬’이라는 주제로 섬이 단순히 관광지가 아닌 ‘머물며 치유 받는 공간’임을 강조하기 위한 여러 프로그램을 준비했다.
6일 ‘전야제’를 시작으로 ‘정부 기념식’, ‘국제 섬 포럼’, ‘어린이·청소년 행사’, ‘섬 걷기대회’, ‘명사십리해수욕장 팝업 이벤트’ 등과 각 지자체의 전시관 운영, 다양한 체험활동이 마련됐다.
