[브레이크뉴스=박찬호 기자] 한국남동발전(사장 강기윤)은 재생에너지 간헐성에 대응한 탄력 운전 전력거래제도(이하 유연운전)에 따른 발전설비 고장 가능성을 최소화하기 위해 국내 발전사 최초 유연 운전 가이드라인 연구개발이 진행 중이라고 13일 밝혔다.

한국남동발전에 따르면 유연운전 가이드라인 연구개발은 빈번한 기동정지를 유발해 설비 고장 가능성이 높은 유연운전 상황에서도 무고장 설비운영을 달성하겠다는 목표로 미국전력연구원(EPRI)와 협업해 추진 중이다. 

남동발전은 미국 전력연구원과 함께 지난달 19일부터 약 2주간의 일정으로 영흥과 여수발전본부 2곳 사업소에서 운영현황 현장점검을 시행하고, 그 결과를 상호공유하는 자리도 마련했다. 

특히 남동발전은 타 발전사 대비 석탄발전 비중이 높아 이번 유연운전 가이드라인 개발로 인한 설비고장 가능성 및 운영인력의 피로도를 낮춰줄 것으로 기대하고 있으며, ‘26년 하반기 연구개발을 완료할 예정이다.

강기윤 한국남동발전 사장은 “에너지산업 환경변화에 따른 여러 어려움이 나타나고 있지만, 창의와 도전 정신을 통해 앞으로도 석탄발전설비의 안정적 운영을 구현해 국민들에게 양질의 전기를 공급해 국가경제발전에 기여하겠다”고 말했다.
