[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 경상남도는 22일 창원컨벤션센터에서 ‘SMR의 미래 : 세계가 묻고, 경남이 답하다’라는 주제로, 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 국제 콘퍼런스를 개최했다.

 

올해 처음 개최되는 ’경남 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 국제 콘퍼런스‘는 글로벌 소형모듈원자로 선도기업과 국내 원전기업, 연구기관과 함께 소형모듈원자로(SMR)의 설계·제조 기술개발 현황을 공유하고, 경남도의 소형모듈원자로 시장 선점과 글로벌 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 제조 클러스터 육성을 논의하기 위해 기획되었다.

 

박완수 경남도지사는 개회사를 통해 “최근 인공지능(AI), 빅데이터 같은 첨단산업이 빠르게 발전하고 있어 전 세계적으로 전력수요가 늘고 있다”며 “이러한 변화 속에서 안정적이고 지속 가능한 에너지원으로 무탄소 에너지원인 소형모듈원자로, 즉 SMR이 전 세계의 주목을 받고 있다”고 말했다.

또한 “우리 도는 지난해 6월 경상남도 원자력 육성 종합계획을 수립해 2032년까지 2조 6천억 원을 투자하고 SMR 기술개발 등 원전산업을 키우겠다고 발표한 바 있다”며 “정부의 원전 생태계 활성화 의지와 경남도의 SMR 육성 노력이 합해져 경상남도는 명실공히 SMR 산업의 글로벌 센터로서 역할을 수행할 것”이라고 말했다. 

 

그러면서 “이번 국제콘퍼런스를 통해 대한민국 SMR을 비롯한 모든 산업 발전의 계기가 되고, 글로벌 선도기업들과의 협력을 통해 세계 SMR 산업을 선도하는 대한민국과 경남이 되길 바란다”고 마무리했다.

 

개회식에는 박완수 경상남도지사, 최학범 경남도의회 의장, 황판식 과기정통부 연구개발정책실장, 정연인 두산에너빌리티 부회장, 스벤올링(Svend Olling) 주한덴마크 대사, 베로니크 루이어 OECD 원자력기구(NEA) 국장, 최철진 한국재료연구원장, 김현제 에너지경제연구원장, 신호철 한국수력원자력 중앙연구원장, 설영실 한국전력기술 전력기술연구원장 등 국내외 원전기업, 연구기관 등 300여 명이 참석했다.

 

특히, 콘퍼런스에는 뉴스케일파워, 테라파워, 엑스에너지, 시보그, 앳킨스레알리스 등 글로벌 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 선도기업들이 대거 참석해 경남 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 제조 클러스터 조성을 위한 협력의 자리가 되기도 했다.

 

개회식 이후 경남도는 글로벌 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 선도기업인 테라파워, 시보그社와 차세대 원전(테라파워-소듐냉각고속로, 시보그社-소형용융염원자로) 부품 및 장비 설계, 생산, 도내 연구개발(R&D) 센터 설립 등 공동협력을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다. 

 

도는 이번 업무협약을 통해 도내 원전기업들의 차세대 원전 기술 경쟁력을 강화하고, 기술개발에 참여할 수 있는 기회를 제공할 것으로 기대했다.

 

기조강연에서는 OECD 주요 산하기관인 NEA(원자력기구) 베로니크 루이어 국장과, 한국원자력학회 정범진 학회장의 주제 발표가 있었다.

The province expected that this business agreement would strengthen the next-generation nuclear power plant technology competitiveness of nuclear power companies in the province and provide opportunities to participate in technology development.
