[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 홍남표 창원특례시장은 23일 오전 10시 30분 긴급기자회견을 가지고,  22일 북면 감계복지센터 수영장에서 발견된 유충에 대해 대시민 브리핑을 했다.

우선 '북면 배수지'의 유입구와 유출구 그리고 수돗물이 공급되는 끝단인 12곳의 아파트 등에서 채취한 샘플을 대상으로 유충 존재 여부를 검사한 결과 유충은 일체 발견이 되지 않았으며, 발견된 유충의 종류를 알아보기 위해 전문기관에 의뢰를 한 상태라고 밝혔다.

하지만 창원시설공단의 보고체계가 문제였다. 민선 8기 시정, 초기에 발생한 진해 석동 정수장 유충 사건으로 물 문제가 상당히 민감한 문제임에도 불구하고 이틀 동안이나 보고가 되지 않았다는 점은 시설공단의 심각한 문제로 보인다.

유충은 유아풀에서 10마리, 일반풀에서 15마리가 발견되어 모두 제거 조치 하였고, 23일 오전 10시 창원시 관내 14개 수영장을 전부 검사한 결과 더 이상의 유충은 발견되지 않았다고 시설공단 관계자는 밝혔다.

홍 시장은 "북면지역에 공급하는 '대산정수장'의 경우 깊은 우물 방식으로 집수하는 '강변 여과수'라는 특수성과 중간 저장시설인 '북면배수지'도 지하화되어 있어 유충 유입이 불가하다"며 "한여름에도 물의 온도가 통상 16도 내외로 낮아 유충의 활동이 어렵다"고 밝혔다.

이어 "이번 유충이 발견된 원인을 규명하기 위해, 전문가와 시민단체 등이 공동 참여하는 '조사위원회'를 구성해 모든 가능성을 열어놓고 조사에 착수 할 것이며, 깨끗한 수돗물 공급을 위한 '창원특례시 수돗물 수질 시민 모니터링단'도 구성 운영할 것이라"고 밝혔다.
