Gyeongnam Small and Medium Business Administration, Sancheong Brewery Area’s First ‘100-year Small Craftsman’ Selection

Traditional method of making Sancheong rice and underground water... 34 years of experience passed on technology to the son of CEO Kim Dae-hwan

Daehwan Kim (63), the CEO of Sancheong Brewery, who has been operating the Sancheong Brewery for 34 years since 1988, was selected as the first ‘100-year-old craftsman’ in the Sancheong region.

On the afternoon of the 12th, Gyeongnam Regional Small and Medium Venture Business Administration held a 'Sancheong Brewery Centennial Certification Signboard Ceremony' at the Sancheong Brewery in Sancheong-eup.

The signboard ceremony was attended by 10 people, including CEO Kim Dae-hwan, Sancheong County Governor Lee Seung-hwa, Sancheong County Council Chairman Jeong Myeong-soon, Gyeongnam Regional Small and Medium Venture Business Administration Choi Yeol-soo, local lawmakers and heads of related organizations.

‘Hundred Years Small Craftsman’ selects manufacturing companies that have been in business for more than 15 years based on their technological prowess.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups is promoting a project to select '100-year-old small business owners and 100-year-old shop' to enhance the self-esteem of small business owners and encourage sustainable management efforts.

There are 53 100-year-old small craftsmen in total in Gyeongsangnam-do. Sancheong-gun was selected this time for the first time.

According to the county, Sancheong Brewery has been a representative brewery in the region since 1971. Daehwan Kim, the CEO of the company, has been running the company as the CEO since he joined the company in 1988.

Sancheong Brewery's flagship product, 'Sancheong Paldoju', is manufactured using Sancheong groundwater and domestic rice. ‘Sancheong Yakju’, a new product, has a reputation as a traditional yakju made using raw materials from Sancheong.

From five years ago, his eldest son, Kim Tae-gun (32), has been passing on the skills for corporate succession.

Kim Tae-gun recently launched a traditional liquor brand called Monster Village with two like-minded friends.

It is also selling online through Naver Smart Store, centering on the unsweetened raw makgeolli ‘Seolre’, which even beginners of traditional wine can enjoy without any hesitation.

Thanks to the strength of ‘soft traditional liquor with a youthful sense’, in May, the Korean Food Promotion Agency hosted a class on ‘Making Sancheong Strawberry and Grasshopper Rice Makgeolli’ for Seoul citizens and received a great response.

CEO Kim Dae-hwan said, “I will do my best to help my son, who is currently receiving technology, become a more in-depth traditional liquor maker. We will continue to work hard to make a traditional wine that can shine the name of Sancheong.”
