[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 드라마 '아상한 변호사 우상우'로 인해 인기몰이를 하고 있는 창원 대산면 동부마을 '팽나무'가 천연기념물 지정을 놓고 발빠른 움직임을 보이고 있다.

창원시는 9일 의창구 대산면 동부마을 팽나무의 천연기념물 지정에 관한 주민설명회를 개최했다.

이번 주민설명회는 대산면 동부마을 이장을 비롯한 주민 등 30여 명이 참석한 가운데 문화재 관련 설명 후 주민들의 질의에 답변하는 방식으로 진행됐다.

시는 설명회에서 천연기념물 지정 절차와 역사문화환경, 보존지역 내 건축행위 등에 관한 허용기준, 천연기념물 지정 시 지원 및 규제사항 등에 대해 안내했다.

또한, 주민들은 주차장·화장실 등 제반 시설의 설치, 재산권 행사의 제한, 토지 수용 등에 대해 질의했다.

팽나무는 수령이 500년 이상인 것으로 추정되는 노거수로 2015년 보호수로 지정돼 시가 관리하고 있다. 

현재 천연기념물 지정을 위해 관계전문가의 현지 조사를 거쳐 오는 24일 문화재위원회의 검토 심의 절차를 기다리고 있다.

홍남표 시장은 “창원의 소중한 문화유산이 보존되고 전승될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”며 “그 과정에서 주민들에게 피해가 가지 않도록 관련 내용을 충분히 설명하고 주민들의 의견을 적극 수용하겠다”고 밝혔다.
