[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 오는 12일부터 23일까지 진주실내체육관에서 제66회 대통령배 전국남녀펜싱선수권대회 겸 국가대표선수 선발대회를 개최한다고 5일 밝혔다.

이번 대회에는 전국에서 선수 1800여명이 참가하고 지도자와 임원 가족 등을 포함해 모두 3300여명이 진주를 찾을 것으로 예상되며 에페와 플뢰레 사브르 개인전 및 단체전이 차례로 열린다.

또 진주 출신 올림픽 금메달리스트 박상영을 비롯해 파리올림픽 2관왕 오상욱과 세계선수권 금메달리스트 송세라 등 대한민국을 대표하는 선수들이 출전해 수준 높은 명승부를 예고하고 있다.

진주시는 종합상황실 운영과 안전관리 강화는 물론 교통 주차 숙박 의료지원 체계를 구축하고 자원봉사자를 배치하는 등 선수단과 관람객 모두가 안전하고 편리하게 대회를 치르도록 지원할 계획이다.

진주시 관계자는 “관광홍보관과 푸드트럭 운영과 시민 참여 프로그램도 마련해 스포츠와 관광이 어우러지는 축제 분위기를 조성하겠다”며“지역 상권과 관광 활성화도 긍정적인 효과를 거둘 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
