[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 경상남도가 교육부의 '2026년 거점국립대 패키지 지원대학(서울대 10개 만들기)' 공모에 도전하는 경상국립대 지원을 위해 광역·기초지방정부와 협력체계를 구축했다.

 

교육부는 전국 9개 거점국립대 가운데 3개 대학을 선정해 성장엔진 브랜드 단과대학과 AI 교육·연구 거점을 집중 육성하며, 선정 대학에는 5년간 1천억 원 규모를 지원할 예정이다.

 

경남도는 이에 따라 경상국립대, 부산시, 울산시와 성장엔진 연계 지역인재 양성과 국가균형성장을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다. 또 진주시와 사천시와는 우주항공·방산·피지컬 AI 분야 핵심인재 양성과 특화캠퍼스 활성화를 위한 협약을 맺었다.

 

도는 이번 협약을 통해 부울경 초광역 협력체계와 진주·사천의 산업 기반을 연계해 교육부 평가 요소인 지역 산업 기반, 초광역 협력, 지방정부 지원체계를 강화한다는 계획이다.

 

경상국립대는 우주항공·방산대학 설치 절차를 마쳐 2027학년도부터 학생 모집이 가능하며, UNIST와의 공동 연구 및 KAI가 참여하는 공동연구소 설립도 추진 중이다. 대학은 총장 직속 AI전략위원회와 AI융합원을 설치하고 AI컴퓨터공학부와 제조AI학부 중심의 교육과정 개편도 진행하고 있다.

 

경남도는 지방정부의 협력과 지역 산업 기반을 연계해 경상국립대의 공모 선정 경쟁력을 높인다는 방침이다.

 

김성규 경남도 교육청년국장은 "부울경 산업 기반과 지방정부의 실행력을 바탕으로 경상국립대가 패키지 지원대학에 선정될 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다"고 말했다.
