경남도는 29일 경남연구원에서 도시계획·조경·교통·건축·환경 분야 전문가 20여 명이 참석한 가운데 ‘창원 중앙대로 센트럴파크 조성 기본구상 연구용역’ 추진을 위한 전문가 자문회의를 개최했다고 밝혔다.
이번 회의는 올 하반기 발주 예정인 기본구상 연구용역에 앞서 사업 실현 가능성을 검토하고, 창원 도심 핵심축을 보행과 녹지, 문화 중심 공간으로 전환하기 위한 방향을 논의하기 위해 마련됐다.
‘창원 중앙대로 센트럴파크’는 경남도청부터 용지공원, 창원시청 광장, 한국산업단지공단 경남지역본부까지 이어지는 총 2.8㎞ 구간의 왕복 10차선 도로를 선형공원 형태로 재편하는 사업이다.
기존 중앙대로는 자동차 중심 구조로 인해 도심 생활권과 상권이 단절되고, 용지호수공원 등 주변 녹지 공간과의 연계성이 부족하다는 지적을 받아왔다.
경남도는 사업을 통해 차로 수를 줄이는 ‘로드다이어트’를 적용하고, 산림 녹지축 조성, 문화·미디어 복합공간 구축, 산업단지 및 지역 상권 연계 등 단계별 공간 재편 전략을 추진할 계획이다.
이날 회의에서는 차로 축소에 따른 교통 영향 최소화 방안과 보행 연속성 확보, 도심 열섬 완화, 가로변 상권 활성화 방안 등이 집중 논의됐다.
경남도는 전문가 의견을 기본구상 용역 과업에 반영해 오는 8월 연구용역을 발주할 예정이다.
