[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 오는 7월 1일부터 어선 승선자는 기상 상황이나 승선 인원과 관계없이 갑판에서 반드시 구명조끼를 착용해야 한다.

 

경상남도는 개정된 「어선안전조업 및 어선원의 안전·보건 증진 등에 관한 법률」 시행에 따라 어선 구명조끼 착용 의무가 전면 확대된다고 밝혔다.

 

기존에는 태풍·풍랑 등 기상특보가 발효되거나 승선 인원이 2명 이하인 경우에만 구명조끼 착용이 의무였지만, 개정 법령 시행 이후에는 모든 어선 승선자가 외부에 노출된 갑판에 있을 경우 상시 구명조끼를 착용해야 한다.

 

이번 제도는 어선 전복이나 해상 추락 등 사고 발생 시 인명 피해를 줄이기 위한 조치다. 실제 해양사고 통계에서는 사망·실종자의 88.7%가 구명조끼를 착용하지 않은 것으로 나타나 착용 의무 강화의 필요성이 제기돼 왔다.

 

의무 규정을 위반하면 과태료가 부과된다. 1차 위반 시 90만 원, 2차 150만 원, 3차 이상은 300만 원의 과태료를 내야 한다.

 

경남도는 제도 시행에 앞서 지난해부터 올해 4월까지 팽창식 구명조끼 2만7000여 벌을 보급했으며, 이달 말까지 어업인과 연안 시·군, 관계기관이 참여하는 구명조끼 착용 캠페인을 주요 항·포구에서 실시할 계획이다.
