[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원특례시는 14일 창원컨벤션센터에서 “2025년 일본군 ‘위안부’ 피해자 기림의 날 기념행사”를 개최했다.

 

기림의 날은 1991년 8월 14일 고(故) 김학순 할머니가 처음 피해 사실을 공개 증언한 날을 기념해 제정된 국가기념일이다. 

 

올해로 광복 80주년을 맞아 그동안 민간 주도로 진행돼 온 기념행사를 창원시가 처음으로 주관했다. 이를 통해 피해자들의 역사와 희생을 공적으로 인정하고 기리는 데 한층 깊은 의미를 더했다. 

 

이날 행사에는 장금용 창원특례시장 권한대행을 비롯해 시의원, 일본군위안부할머니와함께하는마창진시민모임, 일본군위안부기념조형물 지킴이단, 여성단체협의회, 여성폭력방지위원회 및 여성복지시설 종사자, 학생 등 120여 명이 참석해 피해자들의 아픔을 함께 기억하고 역사적 책임과 평화의 가치를 되새겼다. 또한, 피해자들의 명예와 인권 회복에 기여한 유공자에게 표창패를 수여하는 뜻깊은 시간도 마련됐다.

 

특히, 마산무학여자고등학교 위안부 역사동아리 ‘리멤버’ 학생이 낭독한 일본군‘위안부 피해자 할머니께 드리는 편지’는 아픈 역사 속에서 고된 삶을 살아오신 할머니들에 대한 존경과 위로, 그리고 아픔을 잊지 않겠다는 젊은 세대의 진심 어린 다짐을 담아 참석자들에게 깊은 울림을 전했다.
