[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 대평면 일대 농업용수 부족 문제 해결을 위해 추진 중인 ‘대평지구 지하수 함양사업’이 본격적인 준비 단계에 들어간다고 밝혔다.

 

조규일 진주시장은 19일 사업 예정지를 직접 찾아 현장을 점검하고, 지역 주민들을 대상으로 사업 취지와 추진 계획을 설명하는 자리를 가졌다.

 

대평지구는 총 118헥타르(㏊)의 농경지 중 96%에 해당하는 104.5㏊에 약 1089동의 시설하우스가 밀집해 있는 진주시 대표 농업지역이다. 

 

특히 딸기를 중심으로 한 수출용 수막재배가 활발히 이뤄지고 있지만 농업용수의 100%를 지하수에 의존하고 있어 동절기는 지하수 부족 현상으로 매년 큰 어려움을 겪어왔다.

 

이에 진주시는 총 59억 원의 예산을 투입해 ‘지하수 함양사업’을 추진한다. 

 

해당 사업은 유수지 여과수, 대용량 심층 지하수, 수막 및 빗물 재이용수, 기존 취수원 등 다양한 수자원을 함양원수로 활용한다.

 

이를 통해 총 188개소의 주입시설을 통해 지하수위를 높여 안정적인 농업용수를 공급하는 것이 핵심이다.

 

이번 사업은 6월부터 기본조사를 시작으로 오는 2026년에는 세부 설계가 진행되며 오는 2027년부터 2028년까지 본격적인 공사가 이뤄질 예정이다.

 

조규일 진주시장은 “이번 사업이 완료되면 시설재배 농가에 안정적인 용수 공급이 가능하다”며“ 수출 딸기 농가의 난방비 절감과 농업 생산성에도 큰 도움이 될 것이다”고 말했다.
