포럼은 국립창원대학교 이장희 교수의 '민주주의와 인권의 관계에 비추어 본 경남 지역 민주화운동의 헌법적 의미와 과제'를 주제로 경남 현대사 속 민주주의와 인권의 의미를 헌법적 관점에서 조명했다. 

이어진 토론에서는 언론계, 교육계, 시민단체 등 다양한 분야의 교육 공동체 구성원들이 참여하여 민주주의와 인권 문제에 대해 깊이 있는 논의를 펼쳤다. 특히 학생 토론자의 참여는 청소년의 시각에서 민주주의와 인권을 성찰하고 목소리를 낼 수 있는 의미 있는 시간으로 평가받았다. 마지막 종합 토론에서는 질의응답을 통해 현장의 다양한 의견을 수렴하고 소통하는 시간을 가졌다.

박종훈 교육감은 "민주주의는 과거의 유산이 아닌 현재의 노력으로 지켜나가야 할 미래의 희망"이라며, "오늘 이 자리가 우리나라 민주주의의 산실이자 우리 경남의 민주주의와 인권에 대한 소통과 공감의 장이 되기를 바란다"고 말했다.
